Jon Wells was Ashford and District Road Running Club’s representative in the Great North Run on Sunday.

While the spotlight was on winner Mo Farah and the elite runners in the 57,000 strong field, Wells finished 948th, after covering the 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields in 1:31.54.

Scott Lynch was first home in the Wingham 10k on Sunday.

Lynch finished 20th in his age category, in 40.06 followed home by Mark Carlton 112th (51.49), Sue Reader 200th (1:00.07) and Ann Fidge (third in her age category) in 1: 01.37.

Christine Costiff finished 28th overall and second lady home in the last Rye Summer Series 5k on Friday in a time of 22.32.

Dean Bracken and Costiff took part in the Bodiam Castle Sprint Triathlon Sunday.

The 450m open water swim, 21.25k bike ride and 6k run saw Bracken finish 40th (splits) swim 8.34, bike 46.23 and run 19.43 for an overall time of 1.16.56. Costiff was 102nd overall, (the 11th lady and first in age category) with splits of 10.09, 49.03 and 22.20, for an aggregate time of 1.23.20.

Sienna Bates displayed her versatility in the space of a few hours on Saturday.

The 11-year-old, who started in Year Seven at Ashford School last week, finished second in the under-13 1200m race at the Kent County Athletics Championships in Erith, then won the 50m backstroke, competing for Ashford Town Swimming Club in the Kent Junior League. Both performances leave Sienna looking in good form ahead of the South East Regional Biathlon Championships next month.

Sienna will be representing her school at Medway Park in Gillingham on October 9.

She twice has made the National finals in Solihull and earlier this year finished fourth in the National Schools Championships.
