BOWLS ROUND-UP: SUPER SADLER SECURES FOUR CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES
John Sadler won four titles in Ashford Town’s Club finals weekend.
He beat William Howard 21-11 to win the Men’s Championship, won 34-22 against Gill Howard in the Yardstick and was a 21-12 winner over David White in the Veterans.
He then completed his quartet of victories, teaming up with Ian Paine in the Wickerwood Pairs, beating Jim McAuley and Mike Goddard 22-15.
White won the Captain’s Prize, beating Graham Ruck 13-11, then joined Elona Griggs to lift the Mixed Pairs, 33-9 winners over Goddard and Barbara Wilson.
Gill Howard won the Handicap beating Peter Collett 22-11, while Vi Cook and Barry Hadfield won the Ellis Wright Pairs, beating Clare Cunningham and Ray Hayward by three sets to two.
Ivor Groves and Graham Ruck were members of a winning rink (23-13) in the East Kent Bowling Association’s 104-104 draw against the Kent County Patrons Association at Folkestone.
Clive Allen, Dennis Gibbs and Bob Rand of Ashford Rail represented the Patrons with Allen playing on one of the winning rinks (27-10).
Groves was a member of another winning rink (28-14) for the Patrons in their 121-101 defeat against the Isle of Thanet BA at Ramsgate, in a match to celebrate the latter’s 70th anniversary.
Tenterden also held their club finals over two days at the weekend.

In club matches, Tenterden claimed six points beating Northiam 50-48 in their latest Mermaid League contest.
Jill Dedrick, Peter Hogarth and David Smith were the best winning rink, winning 25-9.
Tenterden beat the Parkinson Society in a friendly. Dave Raggett and Anne Laidler won three titles each in Hamstreet’s club finals weekend. Raggett won the Club Championship, Men’s Singles and Two Wood, while Laidler claimed the Ladies Singles, Yardstick and 100 up. Other winners were Dot Servante (Handicap), Mick Brogan (Longcluse – three sets), Val Haywood and Robin Collick (Mixed Pairs). Hamstreet lost their friendly against Winchelsea, with skip Paul Brabon, R. Smith and Len Scott their winning rink – 15-13.
Ashford Rail have won the Shepway League with 101 points, the same total as New Romney but with a better shot difference.
Rail won 94-65 in a five-rink mixed triples at Wear Bay. Lead Janet Williams, Clive Allen and skip Jenny Farmer were the highest winning rink winning 25-11.
