Dog owner’s long search for new home finally over

- By Aidan Barlow

A financial adviser and dog owner who spent months searching for a private landlord willing to rent her a house says she has finally found a new home.

Last week the Kentish Express reported how Jennie Delelis had spent several months searching for a two-bedroom property for her, her six-year-old daughter and two dogs after separating from her husband.

Despite approaching dozens of estate agents and potential landlords she felt she had hit a brick wall in her rental property search, because so many landlords were unwilling to let their properties to someone with dogs.

Ms Delelis said: “It is ridiculous that there are no landlords who allow dogs. Both my dogs were rescued. I wouldn’t want to get rid of them because they are like family members.”

She said she could understand why landlords were nervous about pets because of the fear of the damage they could cause to properties.

But she had offered landlords the chance to meet her dogs to see they are calm, and to see that she keeps her home very clean and tidy. She had also offered to pay a higher deposit and rent in a bid to encourage landlords to let out their properties to her.

Now, after four months of searching, she says she has finally found a new home to rent.

She said: “I have now found somewhere to live, so I’m very, very happy. I’m so pleased because it is a perfect place for us.”

She is due to move into her new rental property this week.
