Strike shuts post office
Staff at Ashford town centre’s main post office in Tufton Street went on strike on Thursday with signs detailing alternative branches for customers to use.
The action by members of Unite and the Communication Workers Union was against branch closures, pensions and job losses.
Despite the 24-hour walkout, 98.8% of branches remained open during the strike.
In total, 118 Crown offices in town and city centres across the country closed, with five in Kent.
The four other Kent branches to close were in Dartford, Faversham, Orpington and Sheerness.
There are no other dates planned for further strikes.
