ASHFORD & DISTRICT SUNDAY LEAGUE: Loco rally to dish out defeat

Premier Division locomotive earn first ever league win over multiple champions Kent county league

AFC Locomotive claimed a first ever league win over 20-times Premier Division title winners Market Hotel to go clear at the top.

An outstandin­g secondhalf performanc­e saw Loco to a 6-1 win against reigning champions Market Hotel, after Kyle Anderson had given the visitors a first-half lead.

Former Market striker Steve Harris continued his good goal scoring form with a double, taking his season’s tally to eight goals in just three appearance­s.

Tom Scorer (2), Robbie Greenfield and Dan Scorer were also on target.

Stuart Taylor and Rob Clark both hit two goals to help Mersham Sports move up into second with a 5-1 win at Troggs.

A deflected effort from Ewan Stanley completed Mersham’s tally. Seb Huntley grabbed the consolatio­n goal for a Troggs side still searching for their first points. Sandgate.

Dan Hawkes scored twice for the hosts – his fourth and fifth strikes of the season – while Alex Skippen, Ben Kesby and Ashley Porter also netted for Fran Gallagher’s side, who head the table with seven points from three games. Sandgate scored through Liam Smith.

Darren Brown and Sam Cridland both netted twice as Kennington Sunday beat Lolzors 4-2. Keith Rice’s side moved up to second with their latest victory.

Lolzors’ goals came from Stefan Dalton and Lloyd Carpenter.

Stanhope & Beaver Rangers inflicted a second successive heavy home defeat on Iden Park, as they returned from their trip to East Sussex 6-1 winners to claim their first league victory.

Harry Goddard scored four times for Rangers, while Mark Hilden hit two.

Andy Crouch was on target for the home side.

AFC Locomotive Reserves kicked off their campaign with a 3-1 away defeat against Cheriton.

Player-manager Craig King scored for the visitors but the three points were wrapped up through goals from Ashley Boyd, Ben Ashton and Mike Forbes. four goals in their 7-4 win at home to Red Heathens. Jim Brazil added two more for the Smugglers, with Brad Pritchard adding a seventh to maintain Appledore’s winning start.

Heathens replied through Radislav Davidov, Danny O’Neal and two own goals.

Burton Grove manager Justin Day guided his side to a first win of the season – a 5-2 success at home to Charing Sunday Reserves.

The Grove scored through Alex Howell (2), Matt Johnson, Matt Kirby and James Ross. Wayne Cleave opened his goal account for the season for Charing.

New Romney edged Willesboro­ugh Athletic 3-2 with virtually the last kick of the game. Their goals came from John Simpson, Shaun Gardener and Paul Paddock. Willesboro­ugh replied through Dan Churchley and Jack Sullivan. the hosts to keep them top but Spartans levelled through defender Sammy Head to claim a well-earned point.

Ashstone Galacticos beat Fox Sunday 10-1 at Charing Heath.

Sam Wilson, Josh Knight and Shaun Jennings-McArdle all scored twice for Galacticos, with Barry Podger, Dan Carter, Tom Missing and Ethan Ponting making up the tally.

Fox only had Tom Wilmshurst’s second-half penalty to celebrate.

White Horse drew 3-3 at Aldington. Aaron Cook scored twice for the Folkestone side with Brad Cartwright adding the other, while Aldington replied through Alex Williams (2) and Matt Beasley.

Bromley Green netted a late winner in their 4-3 home win against Stour Valley.

Tom Messenger scored a hat-trick for the Green, with Reece Chapman adding a fourth. Jordan Horne netted twice for Stour Valley, adding to Scott Taylor’s earlier strike.

Ashford United Colts beat Troggs Reserves 4-0. Sean Corps scored twice for United, with Reece Freund and Alfie Dryland also on target for Roger Hadlum’s young side. Lydd Town Reserves are enjoying life on the road in their first season in the Premier Division. Frankie Steer scored twice as they recorded a third away win, 4-2 against Greenways at Gravesend on Saturday. James Smith and Ryan Easter added the other two. George Hayes netted Kennington’s winner as they beat Peckham Town 1-0 at Sandyacres. Billy Weir-Somerville’s strike clinched New Romney’s place in the second round of the Kent Reliance Intermedia­te Challenge Shield, seeing them to a 1-0 win at Halstead United. Tim Sims scored again as Rolvenden went out, beaten 5-1 at Fleetdown United. Riley Alford earned Willesboro­ugh Athletic a point in their 1-1 draw at Cuxton 91 in Division 2 C&E. Sam Lancaster netted twice as New Romney Reserves beat Sheppey United Reserves 3-1.
