Kentish Express Ashford & District
It was just a normal neighbourhood
On Monday afternoon our reporter Joshua Coupe joined about a dozen police officers as they raided a house in South Ashford.
He said: “After carrying out background checks and examining bank statements, the detectives believed the property in Beaver Lane was being used as a brothel.
“A woman came to the door, she looked confused and upset, but also relieved.
“I found it quite remarkable, the property was opposite a dentist surgery, just a few hundred metres from a primary school and on the edge of a busy road – yet nobody suspected anything sinister was going on.
“Passers-by were shocked to hear that inside were women who had been trafficked to the UK and believed to have been used as sex slaves.
“It seems people are reluctant to believe these types of crime happen in normal neighbourhoods. “With tens of thousands of people desperate to get into the country, and with that number growing every day, it’s inevitable that reports of people trafficking will continue to rise.”
