On Facebook Delia Barton said: “Obesity costs the NHS more than smoking. Are McDonald’s going to be shut down? Smoking and alcohol related illness comes next, so shall we stop shops and pubs selling alcohol?”

But Wayne Cleave posted: “People are right obesity kills too, but no one blows McDonald’s around you and more importantly no one blows Burger King around your children. I’ve never heard of anyone getting ill from breathing a second hand KFC.”

Megan Lee added: “I recently moved back to America from living in Ashford for four years, I was appalled to notice how many more people smoke in the UK.

“In America we have smoke free zones and designated areas. I don’t care if the stranger next to me is enjoying a Big Mac. I doesn’t affect me one bit. I would care if he was blowing disgusting smoke in my face though.”
