Bookworms complete Dahl summer reading challenge

-

More than 1,000 youngsters took part in a summer reading challenge with Ashford Library and a record number of youngsters completed the task.

Pupils from schools across the borough were encouraged to take part in The Big Friendly Read, a reading competition centred around children’s favourite author Roald Dahl. Youngsters who took part in poetry and poster competitions at Gateway Plus received their prizes on Saturday.

Kingsnorth Primary School took home the reading cup after a record-breaking 110 pupils completed the school reading challenge.

Librarian Karin Backlog said: “The children did so well this year and obviously really enjoyed the Roald Dahl theme.

“We had an extremely high standard of poems and posters and are delighted that more pupils than ever completed the summer reading challenge. It was a real success.”

The children’s posters are now displayed in the library.
