Work on gas pipe upgrade due to start

An upgrade on the gas network in Station Road, Ashford will begin on Saturday.

The work will involve replacing old metal gas mains with new plastic pipes with a minimum lifespan of 80 years.

SGN’s contractor KLT will undertake the work which has been planned in partnership with Kent County Council.

Phase one will run from Saturday for nine days with a southbound lane closure.

Phase two, with a northbound lane closure, will begin on Saturday, February 11 2017 for nine days.

Both phases have been planned to coincide with school half-term holidays.

All businesses in the area will remain open as usual and temporary traffic management will be in place.

A compensation scheme for businesses which suffer a genuine loss of trade because of the work is planned.
