Full steam ahead at Christmas

-

All aboard a train that will take passengers from Ashford International station to the Winchester Christmas Market.

The Cathedrals Express steam train is making the excursion on Wednesday, December 14 to the Hampshire town.

Fresh from a four-year refurbishment, ‘Lizzie’, as she is affectionately named, will leave Ashford at 8.40am and will also call at Charing at 8.50am, before making her way through Surrey to the historic city of Winchester.

Passengers will have about three hours there to enjoy its Christmas market, now in its 10th year.

The return journey leaves Winchester at 5pm, taking passengers back as far as West London, where a vintage diesel engine will bring them to Ashford by 10.20pm (Charing 10pm).

Passengers can travel in one of four classes, ranging from premium standard at £109, where they are seated at tables for four, with white tablecloths and complimentary tea and coffee at their seats, up to Pullman style dining at £249 a person which includes a champagne breakfast or brunch and a five course Christmas meal on the return trip.
