Lots of mud and plenty of pumpkins

-

The half term holidays will give Ashford families the chance to pick a pumpkin to carve in time for Halloween.

The Pick Your Own Pumpkin event at a farm in Sevington allows visitors to choose their own pumpkin in aid of charity.

Organiser Jemma Thompson said: “It is simple fun. One field, lots of mud, and the chance to select your own pumpkin from the tens of thousands of pumpkins we have grown.

“This year we will make a donation to the Dover-based charity Cherished Gowns UK, which has been nominated and chosen by our Facebook followers.”

The charity uses donated wedding dresses to provide burial gowns for stillborn babies or those who have died too soon.

The farm is family-owned and run by Jake and Mark Thompson, growing more than a million pumpkins to supply to supermarkets this year.

Children will have the opportunity to meet Cinderella next Wednesday and Thursday, to help her pick a pumpkin to turn into a carriage for Prince Charming’s ball.

Pumpkin-picking runs from this Saturday to Sunday October 30, daily from 10am to 4pm in the field at Cheesemans Green Lane, Sevington, TN25 7HX.

Pumpkins range in price according to size, starting from £1. Last year’s event raised more than £5,000 for charity.

All ages are welcome but visitors are advised to wear wellies and gloves. Dogs are not permitted.
