Aherome Goitom was Ashford Athletic Club’s bestplaced finisher in the opening Kent League Cross Country meeting at Wilmington near Dartford on Saturday. He finished 12th in the under-20 race. Marshall Smith was 14th in a hotly contested race over 5.3K. Matt Britton was 34th out of a field of more than 200 in the senior men’s race over 9.8k. Kevin Williams finished 69th and was first home in the Masters 55 category. Briony Walsh was 44th out of 134 in the women’s event, Rebecca Dyer was 56th and Jane Wheeler 105th. Several club youngsters made their debuts. Anna Hinson finished 55th in the under-13 girls race over 2.7K, Ciara Mackey was 35th in the under-15 girls, while Gabi Stannard came home 30th in the under-17 event.
