Father and son powerlifters Andras and Matthew Csiszar returned from the Global Powerlifting Committee Federation’s World Championships in Serbia with two titles and four records each, The pair who live in Hawkinge, and train at Olympians Gym in Ashford, enjoyed a double celebration with Andras (43) winning his fifth title, while it was a first for 16-year-old Matthew, a pupil at Folkestone Academy, adding to his three British and three European successes. Andras said: “We looked at the records in his age category, and made the decision we wanted to try and break every one of them. “He had prepared for four years and we were very happy with the results. “I am very pleased to train him and we travel around the world together.” Matthew began with a 177.5kg best in the squats, followed that with 101kg on the benchpress, breaking his own previous record, before achieving 210kg in the deadlift, for a new record total of 488.5kg. “The deadlift is more than a fully grown man can lift, but Matthew did it easily,” added Andras. He began his own competition with a 300kg squat, a fallow benchpress with 185kg and a fallow deadlift of 295kg – for a new world best score of 780kg.
