HEAD COACH ADAMS LEAVING THE COUNTY AFTER FIVE YEARS AT THE HELM

Jimmy Adams is leaving Kent after five years as head coach, writes Alex Hoad. The former West Indies Test captain – who has been linked with the national coaching role after last month’s sacking of Phil Simmons – will not extend his current Kent contract beyond this year and will return to Jamaica. The 48-year-old said: “I’ve enjoyed my time at Kent which has been a great learning experience for me. “I wanted to be involved in a club that was seeking to grow and I am fortunate to have found that here at Kent over the past five seasons. “It’s been a delight being involved with all our players as they have developed during the period and especially watching the younger players who have made the step up to First Class level.” He added: “Working with the club to develop a stronger support team to back up our players has also been a highlight for me. I’m extremely grateful for the members and supporters who have consistently backed me, the team and the club’s overall vision.” Adams missed the County Championship season finale against Essex after being given dispensation to return to Jamaica for personal reasons. Assistant coach Matt Walker took charge for the drawn game at Canterbury which saw Kent secure second place in Division 2 behind Essex. Chairman George Kennedy CBE said: “We thank Jimmy for his fine service of the club and wish him all the best for the future. His commitment to developing Kentish cricket talent is shown by the core of homegrown players now at the heart of our professional squad.”

All-rounder Darren Stevens has signed a new contract with Kent. The fans favourite will be back for a 13th season in 2017. He pledged his future to Kent after finishing the season with tons against Gloucestershire and Essex.
