‘Superman’ stands up to cancer – on the wing of a plane

-

A cancer sufferer will strap himself to a plane dressed as Superman while the pilot performs aerobatic stunts to raise money for charity.

Malcolm Jennings, 64, is raising money for Prostate Cancer UK as he is living with the disease and wants to help the charity.

He will step out on the wings of a biplane for a sponsored wing-walking challenge on Saturday in Bilsington.

Mr Jennings, who is from New Romney, and works at Dungeness power station, said the idea all came about while having a leaving do for a colleague from the power station.

The father-of-one said: “The idea came about while we were saying cheerio to someone I worked with. I saw something about wing walking.

“I’m quite looking forward to it – probably until I stand up to the cockpit and on to the wing of the plane.

“I’ll be nervous on the day and then have an adrenaline rush and want to do it all again. I’m not scared – I’ve gone past that at my age.”

He will take off from the Hamilton Farm Airstrip in Bilsington at 3pm on Saturday and there will be a family day including traditional games and music starting from noon.

Mr Jennings and his wife Kim are hoping to raise £2,000 from the sponsorship and proceeds from the day.

He added: “It’s open to everybody. Everything we raise on the day and before will be going to the charity.”
