Ashford Leisure Trust
November promises to be a busy month for Ashford Leisure Trust.
It includes a special Olympics ‘Come and Try’ event, the 2016 Talented Athlete Bursary Programme presentation and the organising of the Kent Junior Cross Country Championships at Detling showground.
The ‘ Come and Try’ event is being held at the Julie Rose Stadium on Friday, November 4, between 10.30am and 2pm. It is suitable for anybody aged 11 or above with an intellectual disability and offers family, friends and carers the chance to try out four sports – athletics, boccia, football and golf – as well as offering advice and guidance from coaches about playing them regularly.
Double Olympian Jack Green, the Mayor of Ashford, Cllr George Koowaree, and his deputy, Winston Michael, will be guests of honour at the Talented Athlete Programme 2016 presentation at the Nike store in the designer outlet in Ashford on Sunday, November 6.
The youngsters supported this year are: Euan Cox (gymnastics), Giselle Desseaux (rhythmic gymnastics), Nicole Amos (golf), Luke Stoner-Lewis (cricket), Grace Sullivan (athletics), Amanda Jayne Cook (gymnastics), Lottie McVittie (cricket), Debbie Martin (athletics), Chris Scrivens (athletics), Lucy Howes (lifesaving and swimming), Matthew Day (football), Kirsty Howells and Adrian Heathfield (para-cyling), Luke Carpenter (karate),
ALT are running the Kent junior Cross Country Championships for a third year. It takes place on Saturday, November 12.
Last year the event attracted 90 primary schools 1,300 runners and a crowd of around 2,500.
The Ashford & Tenterden Primary Schools Years 5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics Festival takes place between 12.30pm and 6pm at the Stour Centre on Thursday, November 24.
It will involve more than 25 local primary schools and over 700 young athletes, with the winners going through to represent Ashford at the Kent School Games finals at Medway Park in February next year.
