Gidman picks up permanent deal following loan spell

Will Gidman has signed for Kent, making the move permanent following a successful loan spell this summer. The 31-year-old all-rounder was released by Nottingham­shire at the weekend after two seasons at Trent Bridge. Gidman, who has also played for both Durham and Gloucester­shire, scored five fifties for Kent in Specsavers County Championsh­ip matches and claimed 10 wickets in 11 matches in all formats including 3-28 against the latter in Kent’s run to the Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-finals. Gidman said: “I’m excited to make the move permanent. Kent are a great club with exciting prospects and I feel privileged I have the opportunit­y to be part of it.” Chairman of cricket Graham Johnson said: “In his loan spell with us, Will added depth to our batting and bowling in Championsh­ip and limited overs cricket as well as being a positive addition to the dressing room with his experience and enthusiasm. “In developing a squad to challenge at the highest level, we need a blend of experience and potential plus having depth of talent and competitio­n for places. We look forward to his significan­t contributi­on in the future.”

Seamer Charlie Hartley has extended his Kent contract. The 22-year-old played two Royal London One-Day Cup games this season, taking 2-23 against Gloucester­shire and 2-42 against
