Deliver a little warmth and comfort this winter

Charity calls for donations and help in Christmas appeal

- By Aidan Barlow

Charity organisers have appealed for help from volunteers as part of a Christmas Food Drive to help those struggling this winter.

FareShare Kent provides food to charities, community groups and to Foodbanks and works in partnership with supermarkets like Tesco.

This winter organisers want people to donate tins of food to the effort, and have also asked for volunteers to come forward to help stock, pick, and distribute the food to those who need it most.

Manager Ian Townsend-Blazier said: “We are part of the country’s biggest food drive to help fight hunger here in the UK.

“You don’t need superpowers to be a hero against hunger, you just need to give three hours of your time.

“In a morning or afternoon you could collect enough tins, cans and store-cupboard staples for five hundred meals for people in need.

“All food collected will go back out to local charities and community groups across Kent, as well as support individuals and families that are lonely, isolated and in need this festive period.”

Mr Townsend-Blazier said there are as many as eight million peo- ple struggling to be able to afford to eat this Christmas.

Food will be distributed to foodbanks, refuges, and youth hostels to ensure that those in need are not forgotten.

If you are able to volunteer on Thursday, December 1, Friday, December 2 or Saturday, December 3 then contact FareShare to get involved.
