Community prepares to honour memory of fallen

Remembranc­e services and events will take place across Ashford this weekend following Armistice Day tomorrow (Friday).

Schools, workplaces and organisati­ons across the borough will fall silent at 11am alongside the rest of the country.

Then on Sunday church services, parades and events at war memorials will honour the fallen.

On Remembranc­e Sunday (November 13) there will be a wreath-laying ceremony and a minute’s silence in the Memorial Gardens, off Church Road, Ashford.

The service follows a parade of veterans, cadets and Royal British Legion members from St Mary’s Church Hall through the town centre at 10.35am.

Ashford MP Damian Green, Mayor of Ashford Cllr George Koowaree, the deputy lord lieutenant of Kent and Ashford’s RBL president will be among those attending. Other services include: Brabourne, Brabourne Baptist Church at 10.30am Challock, St Cosmas & St Damian, service at 10.45am Charing 10.45am service, with a parade of uniformed associatio­ns going up the high street from 10.30am Charing Heath, Holy Trinity Church, Remembranc­e service 10.45am Chilham, wreath-laying at the war memorial at 10.45am, followed by a service at the parish church

Crundale and Godmersham, joint service at Crundale Church at 10.40am

Egerton, St James Church, remembranc­e service at 10.45am

Great Chart, wreath laying at war memorial at 10.30am followed by parade and service at St Mary’s Church

High Halden, war memorial, 11am

Hothfield, St Margaret’s Church, remembranc­e at 10.45am

Kennington war memorial, Church Road, 10.30am

Kingsnorth Parish Church, Church Hill, service at 10.30am following a parade from the village hall from 9.45am

Little Chart, 9.30am traditiona­l service at 11am, with a pop-in peace candle vigil from noon to 11pm
