Cribbens doesn’t hang about
Boxing
Tenterden Boxing Club boasted three winners at two different venues on the same night.
Twelve-year old Alfie Cribbens needed just 40 seconds to record a technical knock-out in his debut bout against Alexandre Tavares at Willesden in north London, while Jacko Cosgrave, also 12 and 13-year-old Ki Grant Callier were both winners at Rayleigh.
Cribbens showed no firstnight nerves, making a fast start against Tavares, catching his opponent with powerful shots to the head and body, forcing his opponent to take a count, before stopping the fight.
Cosgrave started aggressively against Watson (Danson ABC) forcing him to take a count in the opening round.
He went on to win all three rounds, on his way unanimous points win.
Ki Grant Callier had a tough start against home club man George O’Leary before settling down. He then established his jab, giving his opponent a bloody nose, leading the referee to give him a count.
In the second round, Ki was catching O’Leary with frequent to a left and right shots, which was wobbling him and eventually the referee stopped the bout, with Ki winning by TKO.
Alfie Parks was also in action in a skills bout against George Ruston, from Basildon-based Chalvendon BC.
He gained valuable experience in the ring, showing plenty of promise for the future.
