Ashford men’s 1sts went down 2-1 at Worthing in a lively Kent/ Sussex Regional 1 match on Saturday.

The game developed into an end-to-end contest with the West Sussex hosts scoring both goals from short corners in the first half, before James Chamberlai­n pulled one back.

Interest for Ashford in the Faithdean Kent Cup ended with a 2-1 quarter-final defeat against Tunbridge Wells at Kent College in Pembury on Sunday.

The 6ths were beaten 10-0 at Herne Bay 5ths in Open Division 4.

Ashford ladies’ 1sts lost 4-0 against undefeated leaders East London in East Women’s League Division 2 East.

The 2nds went down 3-0 at Blackheath & Old Elthamian 2nds in Kent 1

Tessa Palmer’s goal earned the 3rds a 1-1 draw in Division 2 as their improved form continued under stand-in captain Kate Horton.

The home side went in front in the second half before Palmer’s equaliser capped a gritty and determined performanc­e.

She beat several opponents starting from the halfway line, before running into the D and beating the keeper.

Best for Cinque Ports was Andy Camber with silverfish catches totalling 6lb 7oz, all on bread punch. Top rod for Wantsum was Steve Pearson with 3lb 1oz and best fish went to Cinque Ports’ B. Hooley with a perch of 1lb 1oz. Well done to Ben Cloke who won the Kent Classic Open junior competitio­n and went home with an armful of prizes and more than £ 500 richer. Also congratula­tions to senior winner George Smith. The Fountain anglers had their late night match and Adam Howard led the field to win with 4.130kg. Del King was not far behind with 3.380kg, followed by Mark Howard 2.685kg.
