Bethersden retain title
Netball
Bethersden Netball Club are celebrating after retaining their Ashford Play Netball League 1 title.
They completed another successful season – winning nine games and losing one – with a 30-4 victory over Newbots, finishing only one short of the 200-goal mark, conceding only 41.
Captain Katie Hannett said: “We are proud to have come this far in such a short time, considering how new we are.
“We have gelled and this has shown in our performances.
“We never expected to win when we first started let alone winning it for a second time.
“The Play Netball league is social and for those who haven’t played since school.
“We would definitely encourage anyone who wants to return to the sport to get involved.
“Our plan now is to move on and enter the Ashford Summer League – it will be a big step up for us as but we’re all looking forward to it.”
“Three of our players, Rose Pullar, Rosie Storr and Fran Hodgkins, had only been with us for a month before they played in the league.”
Top scorers were shooters Zoe Kersley and Rose Pullar and goal attack Josie Hannett.
Bethersden play and train in the village and are always looking for new players to join them.
