The Nuts and Bolts, deposed first by Crowborough and then Sheppey United, occupy top spot for the fifth time this season, after coming from behind to record their sixth home league win of the campaign in front of another 200-plus crowd.
Shaun Welford put United in front after 13 minutes with an edge-of-the-box finish to beat former United keeper Dan Eason.
The breakthrough came in a nip-and-tuck opening before Whitstable levelled two minutes from the break when Kane Rowland found space before slotting home past United keeper George Kamurasi.
