‘It’s a question of when, not if, there’s a major incident’

A notorious motorway slip road has once again seen tailbacks and near misses.

The coastbound slip road at junction 10 of the M20 has forced some commuters to look for alternativ­e routes home from around 4.30pm.

People have taken to social media noting lorries swerving in and out of lanes and long delays due to out-of-sync traffic lights on the busy roundabout.

Richard Lloyd, 40, of Aldington, said: “It’s most nights. I try to avoid it where I can. The length of time the lights are on for only allows one lorry to pass through saying: There will be a very serious accident at some stage.

“The lights are basically letting five vehicles through and as soon as one is a large goods vehicle, that is all that gets through due to slower speed.”

The Kentish Express reported on the issue last month after another reader, Jon Morrissey, also from Aldington, said that the lights were only green for around seven or eight seconds at a time.

Highways England said the lights’ timings had been recalibrat­ed, but the issue appears to have returned once again.
