Spot-kick woe ends cup interest

The two remaining league sides left in the Kent Sunday Cups crashed out at the quarter-final stage, losing on penalties.

Kennington took on Craven Park from south London in the Kent Junior Cup and did well to contain the physical Orpington & Bromley League opponents. Sam Cridland’s fifth goal of the season saw his side to a 1-1 scoreline at the end of 90 minutes.

With extra-time unable to separate the teams, a penalty shootout was required but hosts Craven emerged victorious 5-4 on spot kicks to go through to the semi-finals.

In Ramsgate, another penalty shootout was required as Sticx went through to the last four of the Kent Junior Trophy just getting the better of Shepway Spartans.

With the sides locked at 2-2 at full-time, they both scored again in extra-time as the game finished 3-3, with Sticx 6-5 winners on spot-kicks.

Alex Skippen (2) and Ben Warlosz scored Spartans’ goals. grabbed the third. Dehara completed his hat-trick and first-team regular Dan Scorer rounded off the scoring to set-up a semi-final tie against one of Mersham Reserves, Aldington or Lydd Grasshoppe­rs. Cheriton’s fourth goal, while Liam Smith, Joe Lester and Adam Reed were on target for Sandgate.

Lolzors eased their relegation worries with a 3-2 victory over close rivals Prince Albert, thanks to goals from Dan Jackson, Antonio Puig Miguel and Joe Brion. Albert replied through Tom Brown and Tyrone Calveley. Tyrone Beech’s last-minute winner helped Aldington extend their lead at the top to three points as they recovered from going behind to beat Ashford Spartans 3-2.

All five goals came in second-half as Aldington ahead through substitute Cryer.

Liam Edmonds drew Spartans level from the penalty spot before Asa Mckenzie put the visitors in front from a counter-attack move.

Cryer equalised for Aldington, who clinched all three points when Beech popped up to tap home the winner.

Promotion-chasing pair White Horse and Fox Sunday drew 2-2. Fox went ahead just before half-time when Stuart Margetson turned in Ross Struther’s cross.
