Family upset by garden ornaments theft
A family from Ashford have ‘lost heart’ following the theft of their beloved garden ornaments.
Denise Veryard, 62, is concerned after a collection of sentimental ornaments went missing from her front garden in Boxley in south Ashford over the weekend starting Friday, February 10.
Mrs Veryard, who is a keen gardener, spotted a ‘mound of compost’ on the grass but didn’t make any connections, until the Monday morning when her family noticed their stone birdbath, among other items, had gone missing.
She said: “When we looked, we noticed all of the missing items.
“They are all of the things my parents have given me. I’ve had them years. They’re worth nothing, just sentimental.”
The thieves also took a collection of stone frogs, a black stone cat, a pot, a stone wheel- barrow and a figure of Bambi.
Mrs Veryard continued: “I’ve lost heart. It the same feeling as if someone had broken into your house.
“I kept seeing the spaces where they were. I can’t replace them.”
Mrs Veryard’s daughter Joanne Veryard, 34, who lives with her mum said: “It just makes us feel down. It makes you feel like you want to move.”
Miss Veryard also posted a status on Facebook about what had happened, where other people in the area reported similar incidents had recently happened to them.
She added: “It seems funny that we had a garden bird bath stolen out of here. Someone else looked out of their win- dow and they said they had a garden bird bath taken as well. That was a bit weird.”
She has also checked boot fairs, and local buy and sell websites to see if the items are being sold on.
