Kentish Express Ashford & District
Sunday closure is an inconvenience
The toilets at New Rents are open from Monday to Saturday and close at 4pm, but Ashford has lots of shops open on Sundays.
We are told footfall in the town centre is encouraged and increasing but shoppers of all ages, be they pensioners or toddlers, are let down repeatedly.
My friends sneak into McDonald’s where the toilets are so small you can hardly enter or exit without bumping into the walls or the door (with shopping, pushchairs etc).
My bladder does not understand the difference between weekdays and Sundays. Other Kentish towns provide public toilets which are open 24/7. They are vandal-proof, with stainless steel fixtures, including soap, hot water and dryers.
So please ABC if you are serious about rejuvenating Ashford town centre give us our daily toilets.
To add insult to injury the New Rents toilets have hygiene bins covered in a thick layer of rust - disgraceful. What happened to health and safety? M Roberts Kennington
