Davisson delivers

-

Ben Davisson scored twice as Ashford United comfortably overcame struggling Lordswood at Homelands on Saturday.

The midfielder took the scoring honours, settling the contest before half-time, and pushing the Medway side a step closer to danger at the wrong end of the Southern Counties East League, Premier Division.

United, meanwhile, march on at the top after another workmanlike display in front of a good crowd.

They took their winning run to 11 matches and stay a point clear of their rivals Crowborough – 3-1 winners against eight-man Whitstable – making the April 1 meeting between the sides at Kingsnorth, an increasingly pivotal fixture in the title race.

United beat Lordswood 7-0 when the teams met at Walderslade in September and were quickly into their stride here, going 2-0 up in the first quarter of an hour.

Davisson got the first after six minutes with a neat finish to round off a good move, Hill adding the second when he converted Ryan Palmer’s right-wing cross.

Goalkeeper George Kamurasi thrives on clean sheets and he secured another one here, hardly ASHFORD UTD LORDSWOOD tested all afternoon, with Lords midfielder Shane Uings shooting wide in the first half.

Davisson made it 3-0 on the half hour, another impressive finish from eight-yards, beating goalkeeper Ryan Chandler, while Adrian Stone went close to getting a fourth by half-time, only to see his effort cleared off the line.

Chandler foiled Palmer early in the second half and then kept out another effort from substitute Luke Eldridge.

United’s fourth came on the hour mark. Jason Goodchild put Palmer in to score from eight yards, for his ninth goal of the season.

Ryan James with a long-range strike and substitute Brett Ince both went close. Another substitute, Clark Woodcock, put an effort wide, and Goodchild was thwarted by Chandler.
