Drama students face silent acting

- By Molly Mileham-Chappell

A drama student is leading the way with a sponsored group silence for charity.

Marie Kemp has organised the challenge in aid of Comic Relief.

The 22-year-old, who lives in Ashford, will work towards raising £250 for the charity with her third year class at the Aelfa Academy of Dramatic Arts in Croydon.

Miss Kemp said: “We are all incredibly fortunate with what we have. Food, clean water, a roof over our head and safety.

“These are basic human rights, but for so many they are not a reality.

“Comic Relief has been rais- ing money for such worthwhile causes for years and every time manages to unite the country.

“At Aelfa, our teachers really guide us about having a positive mindset and being thankful for what we have.

“I suggested fundraising and everyone was on board right away.

“Can a group of actors really be quiet for an entire day? We’re ready to accept the challenge!”

The group, which includes teachers, are in the middle of rehearsals for their upcoming cabaret show, making it a real challenge to stay silent.

The sponsored silence takes place next Monday.

Comic Relief night is on BBC One on Friday, March 24.
