Green recover from early setback

Bromley Green lifted the cup after they bounced back from going behind in the first minute to beat White Horse 3-1 at Reachfield­s on Sunday afternoon.

White Horse took the lead from a free-kick just outside the penalty area, James Nuttall swinging in the ball for Connell Baker to head past Green keeper Louis Burton.

Forward Jamie White twice went close to extend Horse’s lead soon after but those missed chances came back to haunt White Horse.

Bromley Green levelled through a Connor Gower free-kick and it became 2-1 to Green when Reece Chapman latched on to a ball over the top before firing home. The scoring was complete four minutes from the break when Matt Wedge slotted home a penalty after man-of-the-match James Haylock-Ashdown had been bundled to the ground.

With no further goals in the second-half, Bromley Green held out to clinch victory and lift the trophy, their first since re-forming.

Grasshoppe­rs’ goals in the match came from Frankie Steer, Rhys Morrison, Shannon Hodson and Tom Morgans, with Mersham replying through Adam Irwin, an own-goal, a Luke Goddard penalty in the 89th minute and an injury-time equaliser from Adam Fairclough. from Lloyd Dehara and Danny Taylor, and one each from Robbie Greenfield, Connor Ellis and Ryan Carter.

Still hot on the heels of leaders Stanhope are Kennington, who are still unbeaten in the league.

They beat Cheriton 3-0, with goals from Carlum Macleod (2) and Valmir Parallanga­j.
