Dry time after main bursts

-

Homeowners in Ashford were left without water after a main burst in Gasworks Lane last Thursday night.

The leak saw water spilling across the road, affecting homes in south Ashford around Jemmett Road and Rising Road.

The burst main was cordoned off and residents were left without water for a few hours from 6pm.

South East Water’s distribution manager Mark Rice said: “Unfortunately our 8in diameter water main was damaged, but our repair crew was on site as quickly as possible.

“We re-routed water around our network and were able to restore supplies to most customers by 7pm. We estimate about 85 customers had no water or low pressure during the incident. The repair was completed by 10.30pm.

“We are now investigating how the water main was damaged and if anything can be done in the future to prevent such an incident.”

South East Water tweeted during the incident saying: “Customers in TN23 area of #Ashford may experience no water. We are aware of the issue & are investigating this. Thanks for your patience.”
