Giles races to runners-up spot

Ashford & District Road Running Club’s Danyel Giles finished runnerup in the Draycote Spring 10 mile ladies’ race in Warwickshire on Sunday.
She was 31st overall in a time of 1hr 18min 35sec, finishing behind women’s winner Catherine Wright of Corby AC (1:16.03), with Sarah Atkins, of Wrekin Road Runners, third (1:19.02).
Five Ashford & District runners were in a field of more than 3,000 in the 33rd Hastings Half Marathon
The course was testing and hilly, with the runners having to battle against a strong headwind along the seafront to the finish.
Julius Sampson continued his strong showing this year and using the race as warm-up for next month’s Brighton Marathon, was first of the quintet home, finishing 87th in 1:29.22.
He crossed the line just ahead of Scott Lynch (92nd) in 1:29.47.
Keith Haynes was 263rd in 1:38.16, while Mark Cleworth (1.58.15) also dipped under the two-hour mark, .
Dan Green was eighth (39.14) and first club man home in the Riverside 10k at Canterbury on Sunday.
Hazel Turner was fifth lady home, second in her age category, in a personal best of 46.23. Rhian Shrimplin was ninth lady, finishing in 47.55.
Other finishers: Jonathan Wiles (49.36), Julie Foster (1:02.04) and Anne Healy (1:05.11). Paul Moses was second (19.00) in the latest Ashford parkrun on Saturday. He finished behind winner Stephen Poole (18.16) with Graham Giles third (19.06).
Gerard O’Sullivan (Ashford AC) was seventh (19.47), while Claire Green was first lady home (24.22).
