New owners want pub to be centre of village life
Husband and wife team have big plans for The Queen’s Head
A husband and wife say they are determined to create a community friendly village pub after taking it over earlier this month.
Julian and Wendy Fisher are now the landlord and landlady at the Queens Head pub in Ashford Road, Kingsnorth, and have had previous experience of working in and running pubs in Thanet.
The Queens Head had been closed for refurbishment earlier this month, which included a new lick of paint on the outside and some redecoration.
Now the duo hope to make the pub the centre of the growing community in Kingsnorth, and are keen to welcome various groups for meetings and events.
Mr Fisher said: “We have both worked in and out of the pub business for a number of years, and we’ve both moved here for the long term.
“The building here is 200-yearsold, and has been a pub for at least 180 years. We will be the 20th landlord and landlady here.
“We could see the pub has a big potential. Kingsnorth as a community no longer has a petrol station or a shop, so we want to turn it back into a place at the centre of the community.”
Previous owners had put in a new kitchen, and Mr Fisher says the pub is popular for its breakfasts.
He hopes to build on this success by serving lunch and evening meals, as well as Sunday roasts to create a family friendly pub.
He said: “All families are welcome, and we are dog friendly as well.
“As part of the community we want to bring music nights, quiz nights, comedy and other events like that, to give people a choice for their evening.”
He said the first event will be the official opening to take place on Saturday, April 1, where he has organised a party along with Dover band Ratzskins.
