Recycling continues to improve

-

The council has issued a thankyou to all residents after new recycling figures show the borough to be better than ever.

Already named as the country’s most improved recycling authority, Ashford has also improved its contamination habits.

Last year Ashford Borough Council held a “crackdown on contamination” to make sure bins had clean, recyclable materials in them.

A council spokesman said the crackdown worked and the latest December 2016 figures showed a 60% recycling rate, which is a 6% improvement on the previous year.

The national target is 50% and with Ashford having an overall figure of 53.1%, it is the 44th best recycling authority in the country.

Tracey Butler, the council’s head of environmental and landscape management services, said: “It is excellent to see Ashford’s recycling rates remain strong.

“This has been achieved by the enthusiasm and committed efforts of our residents and we would like to thank everyone for continuing to support our recycling service.

“Let’s keep up the good work and together make Ashford an even greener, cleaner and more eco-friendly borough.”
