Happy 2074! Community celebrates new year

-

Gurkhas and Nepalese residents celebrated the arrival of the new year 2074 with a big bash at the weekend.

The Sagarmatha Gurka and Nepalese Community Ashford celebrates the event with a festival, to help preserve their culture and to build a bond with the community.

Community chairman Bhaskar Titung helped to organise the event at the Norton Knatchbull School hall.

He said: “It was a Nepalese musical extravaganza and the main attraction of the evening was the performance of Nepalese pop singer Shiva Pariyar.

“There were also cultural dances by the youngsters and popular Nepalese delicacies for people to enjoy.”

The Nepalese New Year will be officially marked tomorrow (Friday).

The Nepali calendar is approximately 56 years and eight months ahead of the English Calendar known as the Gregorian Calendar or AD.
