Special status for hospital team
A hospital team’s use of new equipment has paid off as the microbiology service at the William Harvey has been awarded specialist status.
East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is one of only five trusts in the country to win the status.
The service has been recognised for its use of new equipment to identify fungi in minutes rather than days.
Not only does this make the process quicker, but will save the trust more than £75,000 a year.
Dr Matthew Strutt said time is of the essence when identifying potentially harmful microbes.
He said: “We’re making our hospitals safer, and making life so much better for our patients.”
