Lee Buckman was in great form setting a Ashford Wheelers club record and personal best in the Lea Valley 25-mile time trial at Newmarket. Buckman clocked 53min 09sec, while club-mate Andy Robinson recorded 59.03, despite not being 100% fit. Three other riders competed in the West Kent RC 10-mile on the A20. Matt Elston was first home – 14th in 22.45 – followed by Andy Branson (17th in 23.12) and John Hollidge (29th in 24.33). Elston was also in action on Sunday in the Sydenham Wheelers 10-mile TT, also staged on the A20. The distance was reduced from due to road works. Elston was 11th in 22.43, followed home by Merv Claydon (23rd in 24.11), Andy Cornwell (35th in 27.19), and Alec Mayes (37th in 28.11).
