‘Early nerves but we deserved win’

-

Danny Lye felt his team suffered from ‘cup final fever’ in the early stages of Sunday’s game but says they were deserving winners.

The 36-year-old United player-boss said: “You always get a bit of cup final fever and people deal with it in different ways.

“I don’t really do nerves but you don’t know what the boys are feeling. They say they’re all right but they might be a bit nervous.

“I think the (Cray) goal knocked the stuffing out of us a little bit and because of that, we were a bit slow, a bit lethargic.

“I said to them ‘Who’s going to change it? Who’s going to give us that little bit of fire that we need and the boys did it second half.

“They (Cray) tried to frustrate us – they had their game plan – but it was just a case of making sure we did not concede any sloppy goals and making sure we were still creating chances, which we did.”
