‘NOWHERE TO GO’

-

Cllr Jennifer Hollingsbee (Con) said: “This is a difficult application and we have been waiting a long time for it to come to committee.

“There are clearly issues facing the village, but if we refuse it where are the lorries going to go?

“My opinion is local residents have suffered this because there is nowhere else for lorries to go.

“They come through the A20 hoping to find somewhere to park.”

Cllr Roger Wilkins (Con) said: “I take the other view, but at the end of the day, this park has been open for two years and we have come now to this committee to get it closed down.

“I have been a lorry driver and in those days all lorries went through Sellindge, so if you close it down it will happen like before.

“I am afraid it will cause more problems for the people if we don’t let it continue.”

Cllr Mary Lawes (Ukip) said: “How the lorries have become Kent’s problem is beyond me.

“I am over the moon that the council has recommended this for refusal.”

Cllr Alan Ewart-James (Con) said: “It is a national problem.

“The park has been run illegally for two years and they expect us to address it now, which is totally wrong.”
