Millionaire’s horses fail to finish race

-

Millionaire property tycoon Fergus Wilson was out of luck when two of his race horses failed to finish Saturday’s Scottish Grand National.

Mr Wilson entered Gone Too Far and Father Edward in the race at Ayr but neither horse completed the 27-fence, fourmile course.

The race was won by Vicente, ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies.

Both of Mr Wilson’s horses were outsiders with the bookies. Father Edward was 66/1 while Gone Too Far, which had never raced beyond three miles before, was 80/1.

Mr Wilson, of Boughton Monchelsea, said: “The two horses were pulled up three out when it was clear they were not going to win. That is entirely normal in very hot weather.

“Everyone is very conscious after the death of Many Clouds, at Cheltenham in January, of unnecessary exertion.”
