Volunteer centre marks 40 years

-

Ashford Volunteer Centre has been commended for 40 years of service to residents in the borough.

The centre in Berwick House, Elwick Lane, Ashford was presented with a special plaque by Ashford MP Damian Green to celebrate the landmark.

The charity group’s chairman Peter Feacey said: “It was humbling to be presented with the plaque. We have been about for 40 years and I hope the charity carries on the great work for years to come.”

The plaque was made by the Kent ‘Men in Sheds’ charity project and was given to the centre free of charge.

The volunteer centre’s mission is to inspire more people across Ashford to volunteer. The centre works with all ages and runs several projects for the benefit of the local community as well as supporting other voluntary services.

One of the main services they provide is helping to provide the elderly with transport and care after they return from the hospital.
