Lye given new deal

- By Andrew Gidley

Danny Lye has signed a new two-year deal with Ashford United with the club just 90 minutes away from winning the Southern Counties East League Premier Division title.

The Homelands boss confirmed the news this week ahead of their final game of the season, a home clash against Rochester United, as they bid for promotion to the Ryman League.

United – who have won their last six matches – go into the game on 89 points, level with rivals Crowborough but with a superior goal difference of plus 13 following their 4-0 win at AFC Croydon last weekend. Their title a season. Lye added: “If he scores two it’s something we will have to think about but Shaun is a winner most of all, and wants to help us get promoted.

“Seeing him outrun defenders half his age and his strength and desire against Croydon was incredible.”

Goalkeeper George Kamurasi and Rory Hill, two leading candidates for player-of-the-year recognition with Welford, and midfielder Dave Botterill are also set to sign new deals.

United’s end of season presentations will form part of their Family Fun Day at Homelands on Sunday week.

The Mayor of Ashford Cllr George Koowaree will officially open proceedings at 1pm. Admission is free.
