Cancer survivor, 8, says Jesus helped him to win through

- By Sam Lennon

An eight-year-old cancer survivor says other stricken children should “fight the cancer with Jesus.”

Roman Catholic Blue Tobin, who was once given 24 hours to live, is now a healthy boy.

He said: “I would say to other mums and dads, let children fight the cancer with Jesus.”

His family, formerly of Kennington, Ashford, say that as a gravely ill three-year-old he had a vision of a man walking up to him telling him it was not his time to go.

Grandad Norman Waite explained: “He believes that man was Jesus.”

Blue, who is now completely cured of leukaemia, said: “I want to grow up to become a singer and be better than Bruno Mars.”

The young Chelsea fan added: “I hope I can see Chelsea in the FA Cup final [on May 27] if my dad can get us tickets.”

Blue, of Elvington, near Dover, was given the all-clear when he returned to the Royal Marsden Hospital on Thursday the fifth anniversary of his pioneering treatment.

He needed a potentially fatal double dose of chemotherapy when he was two, for him to be able to have the life-saving bone marrow transplant.

And a month later it was feared he only had 24 hours left when he fell ill with infections.

His mother, Francesca Waite, 51, said: “He is a beacon of hope for all children with cancer.

“I hope this can give other children with cancer and their families hope.

“Blue was the first child to have this kind of treatment and other parents have had it done for their sick children.

“They have contacted me on Facebook and thank me for taking a chance with my child to give theirs hope.”
