Frying high: Ashford chip shop is catch of the day
A chippy has been listed among the top 50 takeaways after a nationwide survey by an industry magazine — and for the second time.
Catch Fish and Chips at Eureka Place off Trinity Road was recognised for its high standards once again in a survey by Fry Magazine.
It followed mystery inspections by diners from an independent company, which took stock of food quality, customer service and cleanliness.
Those rated in the top 50 had to score higher than 95% — Catch scored 99%.
Manager Kevin Hill said: “We are delighted. All the effort and hard work has paid off.
“It was our best performance ever, and a large number of our customers have already come in to say congratulations. We are determined to keep up the high standards and will be entering again next year.”
The chippy has been presented with a certificate by organiser Reece Head to hang inside the shop plus a window poster to mark the achievement.
Mr Head said: “The pass mark was set very high at 95%. To achieve that takes a lot of dedication and hard work from everyone involved, from the owners and managers, to the frier and the counter staff. It really is a team effort.
“Running a fish and chip shop gets harder every year with so much going on behind the scenes, so to serve up excellent quality food with a matching level of service and atmosphere day-in day-out deserves to be recognised.
“All the shops that made the top 50 have proved they go the extra mile to give their customers the best possible experience, whether that’s detailing the boat that catches the day’s fish, running weekly specials, or simply taking time out to ask customers how their day has been.
“This is what puts these chippies ahead and keeps customers coming back.”
