Salt and freshwater anglers have been enjoying some good catches around the region, There have been reports of smoothhoun­ds into double figures from the local piers and large rays from the north Kent coast. The Dungeness Anglers’ latest match saw Phil Tanner top rod with 21lb 5oz of doggies and whiting. Shane Edwards was second with 15lb 9oz and Tom Loftus was third with 15lb 7oz, which included some large pouting. The seniors from the same club had a good catch on the wall at Littleston­e with John Smith finding a mixed bag for 824cm (catch and release). John Wigston came second (790cm) followed by Pete Brown (574cm). The Folkestone Sea Anglers’ latest match saw the ever consistent Martyn Reid top rod with 4.890kg, which included a 1.690kg bass. Second spot went to Lee Heaver (3.940kg) and Dave Arter took third (3.710kg). Alan Price had the biggest flatfish – a 370g plaice. The Cinque Ports Anglers’ latest club match on the canal at Hythe found the fish with love on their mind. Spawning kept weights low but Andy Camber tempted bream and roach for a winning 13lb 8oz. Graham Clifford was second (8lb 3oz) and Ted Lavender third (6lb 8oz). The Folkestone and Shepway club’s first match on the pool at Radnor Park saw Les Phillips the winner with 23lb 11oz. Mark Williams snr finished second (18lb 6oz) with Russ Robertson in third (14lb 6oz). Carp, bream and roach made up the catches. Lyminge carp angler Steve Dale visited Lovelace Farm Fishery, in Bethersden, for the first time and was rewarded with three 20lb carp. This is a day ticket water, and for £30 you can use two rods for 24 hours.
