Tegg ton sets up last-ball win

Ashford Town

-

Liam Tegg hailed his unbeaten hundred as one of the best knocks of his Ashford Town career as he led them to an exciting two-wicket win off the last ball at Orpington.

The Town skipper struck the winning runs to finish 105 not out and complete back-to-back hundreds, as Town scored 13 off the final over to make 224-8 to claim their second victory of the season, to sit top of Division 3.

Tegg’s ninth-wicket partner David Foad hit four earlier in the over, then they ran a single, before Tegg finished the job, getting home C Laas c Price b Ball .........................26 C Basey c Griffin b Neale ..................61 A Jain not out ...................................98 M Cross c Bristow-Diamond b Vernon......40 M Stiddard lbw b Ball..........................9 G Haley c Neale b Weller ...................17 J Benn not out ....................................9 Extras ...............................................26 courtesy of a fumble in the deep.

He said: “It was a good game to win and an exciting finish, after we needed 70 off the last 10 overs.

“It wasn’t quite as fluent as the one the week before but probably one of the best innings I have played for the club, in the context of the game.

“I had to contain myself in the middle period when we were losing too many wickets.” Simon Taylor A Marsh b Finch................................42 B Mitchell c Ghaemian b Finch ..........29 R Brannan b Jolley ..............................3 S Killip b Jolley .................................22 P Moore c Jolley b Finch ...................11 M Duck c Jolley b Finch ......................5 N Francis c Lancaster b Carroll .........14 C Smith st Lancaster b Carroll.............6 M Harrington not out ...........................7 J Cuming not out ..............................11 Extras ...............................................15 C Calvert c Grover b Harding ...............7 D Ling b Alcock.................................19 A Crouch c Fotheringham b Grover......7 J Rodway b Harding ............................1 D Foad not out ....................................5 Extras ...............................................15 T Russell c&b Parkinson ...................24 B Daking c Haley b Parkinson .............5 P Collins b Wells .................................4 R Sparks c Barton b Hill ....................15 L Mangold c Shanks b Hill.................15 A Burge c Wells b Hill..........................4 J Collins lbw b Patel............................0 R Knight c Bell b Barton ....................35 S Freeman b Evans .............................5 J Rand c Shanks b Barton .................21 S Jones not out ...................................0 Extras ...............................................14 (38), opener Luke Reeves (23) and overseas signing David Ling (19) were Ashford’s other main scorers.

“If we stay fit and strong, we have got a great chance of going straight back up this time.”
