More signings in offing for United
Football
Ben Davisson is the latest Ashford United player to agree a new deal for next season, The former Charlton midfielder, who joined the club in February 2015, has made more than 50 appearances, scoring five goals. He is the fifth member of the Southern Counties East League Premier Division title and Kent Senior Trophy double-winning squad to commit to Homelands. Meanwhile, United boss Danny Lye is close to announcing more player news with two new signings – one of them believed to to be a forward – set to be confirmed soon, maybe even as early as today (Thursday). The 2017-18 Isthmian League Division 1 South structure was confirmed this week, with three Kent clubs Thamesmead, VCD and Phoenix Sports, switching from the North Division, while Chatham Town are relegated. Eleven county sides will feature in the 24-club constitution but a question mark hangs over Southern Combination League side Haywards Heath Town after weekend press reports that they have been charged with fielding an ineligible player – after the end of the season. The matter looks set to go to an appeal. Lye said: “It’s going to be a tough league and with three more Kent clubs included, it means there will be more competition for players, with teams chasing the same ones. “It also means players are a postion where they can demand a bit more.” Meanwhile, an announcement is still to be made about a new sponsor for the league, after Ryman ended their 20-year involvement with the competition at the end of this season.
