BOWLS: VISITORS FINISH FIRST AND THIRD IN OPEN TRIPLES
Charing’s annual open triples competition was won by Boughton.
Brian and Karen Gentry, with Bob Holliday clinched Monday’s closely fought contest, with only three points separating the top four teams.
Chatham finished runners-up ahead of a second Boughton team.
Ashford Rail men beat Lyminge 5-0 in the National Top Club competition.
Reg Abbs won the singles 19-5, while Keith Smith triumphed in the four-wood singles 22-18.
Clive Allen and Ian Larkin were 21-9 winners in the pairs, while Paul Scrivener, Chris Knapp and Eric Peacock took the triples 22-13.
Garry Breeds, Tony Mapstone, Gordon Samson and Carl Akers completed the victory with a 22-15 success in the fours.
Ashford Rail meet Canterbury in the next round.
Rail lost 145-81 at St Lawrence ( Ramsgate) on Sunday in a six-rink mixed triples.
Callum Fraser, Mo Baughurst and skip Keith Smith were the best rink performers, winning 23-10.
Four rinks wins earned Rail their 96-91 victory over Cheriton in another six-rink mixed contest, on Saturday.
Audrey Chandler, Clive Allen and skip Gordon Samson topped the scores with a 31-13 win.
Tenterden won 78-50 at home to Rye in the Mermaid League.
Ann Walker, Carol James and skip Kevin Pope were the best-winning rink.
The club lost both of their Weald League games.
The A team went down 51-41 at home to Hunton B, while the B side lost 85-35 at Paddock Wood.
Ashford Town were beaten 104-79 in a friendly at Lenham. Suzanne Swan, Lenny Jeffries and skip John Sadler were the best rink (20-12).
The ladies lost 45-26 at home to Wear Bay in the Shepway League.
Town’s only winning rink was skipped by Gill Howard, with June Angus and Jackie Sadler. Alison Baker won Littlestone Warren’s Anne Vines Trophy – a competition now in its 33rd year – carries the name of the former president with most of the lady members taking part. Baker
