King meets her match in Lanzarote

Tri Spirit

-

Tri Spirit’s Liz King was forced to quit the Ironman Lanzarote, describing the conditions as brutal.

Reputed to be one of the toughest events of its kind in the world, King found the going tough and pulled out before the running section.

Closer to home, several other Tri Spirit Team members were rewarded for good performances with personal bests.

Candy Hawkins competed in the Mini Marshman – 750m swim, 20k bike section and 5.2k run – at Lydd Action Watersports. She recorded one of the fastest times of the day in the latter section, on her way to finishing second in her age category in a time of 2hr 7min 59sec.

Nick Whitfield and Greg Steel took on the Marshman Half Iron – 1,900m swim, 89.5k bike section and 22.3k run.

Excellent conditions helped Whitfield claim a best ever time of 5:14.15, with Steel finishing close behind (5:42.39), only his second time at the distance.

Trudy Bray (1:12.43) and Zoe Hoare were among the field in the Hythe Bay Triathlon. Alison Scantlebury and Vicky Aitkenhead ran with their respective dogs at the Fit Together 5k canicross event at Bedgebury near Tunbridge Wells.

Scantlebury finished in 21.44 and Aitkenhead 25.45.

Tom Stanley (1:25.41) was first club representative home in the East Grinstead Tri, with the swimming distance trimmed this year by 100m to 400, with a 26k bike ride and 5k run.

Stanley was followed home by Julie Bradford (1:29.53), Debbie Milton (1:30.13), Sarah Leeson (1:38.07), Candy Hawkins (1:44.05) and Amber King (1:44.48).
