Paine paves the way for first win

Mark Paine made an unbeaten 137 as Woodchurch claimed their first Division 1 win of the season, beating Wye by 29 runs.

Paine led the way in a total of 258-6, with Ed Streeten (41) and Tim Russell (33) both making useful contributi­ons. Matt Barnes took 4-47.

Stuart Wise (68), Matt Leclere (48) and Joshua White (42) were the main scorers in Wye’s 229-7.

Skipper Steve Wellard also hit an unbeaten ton, scoring 100 not out as he guided Egerton to an eight-wicket win over Bapchild.

He struck 17 fours and a six in his 98-ball innings, dominating his side’s reply of 194-2. He shared in a century stand with Andrew Pask (27) and 72 with Luke Mangold (26 not out), after the visitors had made 193-8.

Stone-in-Oxney (165) lost by 68 runs at home to Leeds & Broomfield (233-9).

In Division 1, Stuart Graham’s second successive hundred helped Stowting to a 77-run win at Worth.

He followed up his 154 of the previous week with 114 off 112 balls with eight fours and four sixes in a total of 244-9. Graham (3-23) then polished off the tail as Worth were dismissed for 167, opener Olly Mathews making 54 not out.

Richard Turney was another skipper in form, hitting an unbeaten 117, with Julian Bashford adding 46 as Smarden (223-2) beat Selsted (217-6), for whom Stuart Green scored 101 not out.

Alex Markwick top scored with 56 off 41 balls with nine fours as Mersham-Le-Hatch (244-6) beat Detling (206-6) by 38 runs.

Challock had a poor day – dismissed for only 23 in nine overs, with skipper Kevin Kent and extras joint top scorer with nine. Opponents Harvel knocked off the runs in only 13 deliveries to win by 10 wickets.

Aldington (164-6) won by four wickets at Bearsted (163).

Skipper Jack Gooding hit 78 off 46 balls as Saltwood (148-4) won by six wickets at Great Chart (147).

Great Chart 2nds have withdrawn from Division 5, the second team to quit the league already this season.

Leybourne pulled out of Division 2 a week the season began.

Darren Pugh is another skipper enjoying a prolific start with a second hundred in two weeks – 114 off 80 balls – as Mersham Sports (281-7) beat Kings Hill (143-7) by 138 runs in Division 4.

In Division 5, Sam Lancaster hit 87 and Matthew Ford 53 in Brookland’s 259-6, before skittling out Teston for 96, Jake Deem taking 4-32.

Trevelyan Nicholas top scored for the second week running, hitting 38 as Bilsington (145-8) won by two wickets at home to Harbledown 2nds (144).
